Phenergan is a potent, long-acting antihistamine with additional anti-emetic central sedative and anticholinergic properties.
For use as symptomatic treatment for allergic conditions of the upper respiratory tract and skin including allergic rhinitis, urticaria and anaphylactic reactions to drugs and foreign proteins; as an adjunct in preoperative sedation in surgery and obstetrics; and as an antiemetic. For short-term use: sedation and treatment of insomnia in adults; and as a paediatric sedative. Phenergan injection specifically has an additional indication as an adjunct in preoperative sedation in surgery and obstetrics and as a paediatric sedative.
Phenergan should not be used in patients in coma or suffering from CNS depression of any cause. Phenergan should not be given to patients with a known hypersensitivity to promethazine or to any of the excipients. Promethazine is contraindicated for use in children less than two years of age because of the potential for fatal respiratory depression. Phenergan should be avoided in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors up to 14 days previously.
Benadryl Allergy contains acrivastine which provides provides symptomatic relief in conditions believed to depend wholly or partly upon the triggered release of histamine. It is a potent competitive histamine H1 antagonist which lacks significant anti-cholinergic effects, and has a low potential to penetrate the central nervous system. It is a non sedating antihistamine.
NeoClarityn contains desloratadine, which is a non-sedating, long-acting histamine antagonist with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. After oral administration, desloratadine selectively blocks peripheral histamine H1-receptors because the substance is excluded from entry to the central nervous system.
Cyproheptadine hydrochloride 4mg tablets containing cyproheptadine hydrochloride equivalent to 4mg anhydrous cyproheptadine hydrochloride. It is a serotonin and histamine antagonist with anticholinergic and sedative properties.
Piriton contains chlorphenamine maleate which is a potent antihistamine (H1-antagonist)
Tavegil (clemastine) is an H1-recptor antagonist. It belongs to the benzhydryl ether group of antihistamines. Tavegil inhibits selectively the histamine receptors of the H1 type and reduces capillary permeability. It exerts a potent antihistaminic and antipruritic effect with a fast onset and long duration of action up to 12 hours
