Description

Bactroban contains mupirocin, an antibiotic. It has bacteriostatic properties at minimum inhibitory concentrations and bactericidal properties at the higher concentrations reached when applied locally

Indications

Bactroban 2% cream: indicated for the topical treatment of secondarily infected traumatic lesionssuch as small lacerations, sutured wounds or abrasions (up to 10cm in length or 100cm2 in area), due to susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Bactroban 2% nasal ointment: the elimination of nasal carriage of staphylococci, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Bactroban ointment 2%: skin infections, eg Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains, other staphylococci, streptococci. It is also active against Gram-negative organisms such as Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenzae. Bactroban Ointment is used for skin infections, eg impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis.
