Topical antimicrobials

Anabact Gel

Contains 0.75% metronidazole, which is an established antibacterial agent. It is effective against a variety of organisms including anaerobic bacteria, which are responsible for the distressing symptoms of malodorous wounds. Anabact is the only Metronidazole Gel indicated for the deodorisation of malodorous gravitational ulcers, decubitus ulcers and fungating tumours.

Bactroban

Bactroban contains mupirocin, an antibiotic. It has bacteriostatic properties at minimum inhibitory concentrations and bactericidal properties at the higher concentrations reached when applied locally

Crystacide Cream 1%

Crystacide contains 1% hydrogen peroxide, which is a well-known antiseptic agent, and is effective against most pathogenic microorganisms

Fucidin

Fucidin contains fusidic acid, a potent antibacterial agent. Fusidic acid and its salts show fat and water solubility and strong surface activity, and exhibit an unusual ability to penetrate intact skin. Concentrations of 0.03–0.12mcg fusidic acid per ml inhibit nearly all strains of Staphylococcus aureus. Topical application is also effective against streptococci, corynebacteria, niesseria and certain clostridia
